USPA NEWS - Flag Day, in the United States of America, is a day for all citizens, who live in this country, to celebrate and show respect for the American flag. The Hamden Elks, Lodge #2224, conducted their annual Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th, 2013.

THE HAMDEN ELKS CONDUCTED FLAG DAY CEREMONY IN HAMDEN National Observance of Flag Day on June 14th. Flag Day, in the United States of America, is a day for all citizens, who live in this country, to celebrate and show respect for the American flag. The Hamden Elks, Lodge #2224, conducted their annual Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th, 2013. Everyone within the community was invited to this free event. The Flag Day Ceremony was held in the Lodge upper hall. The event included Officers of Hamden Lodge. Local Girl Scout Troops 60228, 64179, 60137 and Boy Scout Troop 610, celebrated Flag Day during Flag Day Ceremony, at the Lodge, and presented the history of our nation´s flag with replicas of each historical flag; then, the boys and girls raised “Old Glory“ for all to see by demonstrating the flag folding ceremony. Members of the community shared a sense of national pride during this wonderful celebration. They learned the history of the American flag, the meaning of showing respect to the flag and the proper manner of displaying and folding the American flag. Josephine O´Neil said in a press release, “Elks Lodges across the nation and its territories are mandated to celebrate Flag Day, which was initiated by the National Elks.“ We shouldn't forget about all those soldiers who have given their lives protecting our flag. They made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our freedom. Josephine O´Neil, also mentioned in the press release that the Hamden Elks is “an organization dedicated to patriotism, service to our hospitalized veterans, as well as youth.“ Hamden Town Clerk Vera Morrison was also present during the celebration. She addressed the listeners as guest speaker. I wish more citizens would get involved in the Flag Day celebration in the near future. I think, we should all show more appreciation for the freedom we have in this country, no matter where we come from.
